Building Skills for the Low-Carbon Transition: Evidence from Job Ads Data | Aurélien Saussay
Aurélien Saussay will present Building Skills for the Low-Carbon Transition: Evidence from Job Ads Data.
AbstractTransitioning to a low carbon economy will bring shifts in the industry structure through a contraction of emission intensive industries and an expansion of new and green jobs. This paper examines the changing demand for skills in the low-carbon transition by exploiting highly detailed job ads data, covering the near-universe of job ads posted to an online source in the US between 2010 and 2018. We make advances on three fronts: i) defining green skills that are needed in the low carbon transition; ii) measuring the potential skill gaps between green jobs and non-green jobs; iii) estimating the existing green skills shortage and potential consequent wage premium.
